Roca is a Spanish company, which manufactures washbasins, sanitary ware, and bathroom furniture. The company was founded in 1917 in Gavà, Barcelona, by brothers Martín, Matías, José, and Angela Roca Soler under the name Compañía Roca Radiadores, and initially produced cast iron radiators. The Roca siblings soon sensed the potential associated with the growing importance of bathrooms in middle-class homes, with the increasing prevalence of sanitary ware and faucets. Production of ceramic washbasins and sanitary ware was started in 1936, followed by faucets after World War II. Roca's growth continued with the international expansion undertaken since the 1990s, with the acquisition of the Swiss Keramik Holding Laufen group and the building of an extensive network of distributors. From 2009-2010, Roca began to collaborate assiduously with famous designers, including David Chipperfield, Gabriele & Oscar Buratti, Belén y Rafael Moneo, and Giorgetto Giugiaro, to name a few. The quality and design of Roca's products enter the palmarés of the most prestigious international awards, garnering more than 50 awards over the years. Today, Roca is present in more than 170 countries and distributes production in as many as 81 factories. It also boasts projects that convey its values based on the dissemination of culture and sustainability, such as the Roca Gallery, a global platform present in Barcelona, Madrid, London, Lisbon, Shanghai, Beijing and São Paulo, with spaces dedicated to debates, conferences, exhibitions and events on architecture, urbanism and design.
